Intaglio ring of a wine jug
Description
A very unusual and rare Roman intaglio of a wine jug dating to the 2nd to 3rd century AD set in a 20th century gold ring weighing 14 grams and is an English size O.
The carnelian intaglio more than likely belonged to a wine merchant or importer of the widely drunk beverage usually mixed with water. The intaglio was most probably used to seal amphoras.
